Hot Rod Thermocouple Sheaths
|
| |
|
| |
Introduction
The HotRod thermocouple sheath range offers a premium thermocouple protection system, giving excellent service life and good accuracy and response. They are supplied ready for use with a threaded Y2 steel tube for rapid attachment to the furnace Pyrometry system. |
| |
|
| |
|
This system measures metal temperature toward the top surface regardless of crucible or bath capacity. Short HotRod thermocouple sheaths are more tolerant to mechanical damage due to their dimensions and are generally immersed to some 100mm. To achieve accurate measurement, the thermocouple should touch the bottom of the sheath to give good thermal conduction. HotRod sheaths have an integral steel tube with a ½ BSP thread for mounting to the furnace pyrometry system.
|
| |
|
| |
This system is suitable for measuring and controlling a wide range of metals and alloys. Select HotRod thermocouple sheaths for their properties of life, accuracy, response and temperature capability. They need to be of sufficient length to allow 2/3 of metal removal before losing contact and accuracy.

Care and Use |
| |
HotRod thermocouple sheaths are attached using the steel insert, making sure that no part of the insert is exposed to air as this will cause oxidation and possible failure of the steel tube at operating temperatures.
Care must be taken to ensure that the sheath is preheated prior to immersion in the molten metal bath to minimise thermal shock damage. When loading a solid metal charge care must be taken to minimise mechanical damage, as this will shorten the life of the thermocouple sheath.
HotRod thermocouple sheaths should be regularly carefully cleaned of dross and dirt to ensure accurate metal temperature measurement and long life. |
